The second day at Endless Daze brought more chilltime and great music. Msaki and AS Fanning (IE) eased the morning into the afternoon under the shady tent of the Some Velvet Morning stage while the main stage played host to Julia Robert, The Dinosaurs, Yndian Mynah, Luma, Ex Olympic, Diamond Thug, Black Lung, Morena Leraba, Runaway Nuns, Medicine Boy, Dead Meadow (US) and culminated in an intense and highly engaging set from American headliners A Place to Bury Strangers, that included a harp, several smashed guitars and a sudden act of teleportation that placed the band out in the crowd while the strobe lights continued their assault on the empty stage.
Psych Night‘s Endless Daze festival is always a highly enjoyable weekend away from the bustle of Cape Town. With just one large stage (apart from the Saturday morning stage) the focus is always on music and it’s possible to sit back, relax and watch all the acts without the stress and back-and-forth between stages that usually happens at festivals. The pace is chilled, the vibe intimate and the beach-side setting the perfect backdrop for one of the most picturesque fests in SA.
I always enjoy myself there and this year was no exception. Stand-out moments on Friday included a postcard-perfect sunset over the beach as well as great performances from W.I.T.C.H (ZM), Black Math, Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys, Kidofdoom, The Brother Moves On, NONN (SE), Candice Gordon (IE) and Sakawa Boys.
For me, there was only one reason to be in Saint-Malo: to see Interpol at La Route du Rock on Sunday evening. Neither my mom nor I felt like going out as we were pretty exhausted so we didn’t get much time to explore the place. We ventured out in the morning in search of some groceries (which took us to one of the only open shops near the station) and for me to walk the route to the station where I’d be catching a shuttle to and from the festival later that night.
Our trip along the northern coast of Brittany took us back past Paimpol, but this time to the epic Abbaye de Beauport, as well as the windy Cap Fréhel before we reached our weekend destination of Saint-Malo.
