The Taros, DJ Invizable & Mr Sakitumi & The Grrrl at Manila Bar

Saturday 7 March 2015

An eclectic lineup that actually came together pretty well, The Taros played with electronic acts Mr Sakitumi & The Grrrl and DJ Invizable at the Manilla Bar last Saturday.

I’ve seen Mr Sakitumi & The Grrrl briefly before (at Sonar and performing with PH Fat) but Saturday was the first time I got to watch them properly and I really really enjoyed it. Not only was the music and visuals combo a really great one, but they were so entertaining to watch, really engaging with the crowd and having a lot of fun. Definitely plan on seeing them again.

Second up was DJ Invizable who also put on a very visual and highly engaging and entertaining performance as he’d done the last time I saw him. Plus the Grrrl stuck around to keep the awesome visuals flowing.

DJ InvizableMixing things up a bit, The Taros (the only band on the bill) closed off the night. I really enjoyed watching them at Aces ‘n’ Spades 2 weeks ago and was keen to see them again; they didn’t disappoint. They’re a great mix of indie folk, pop and a little bit of country, with an unexpected sprinkling of atmospheric electronic elements. Plus the Van Den Berg twins deliver consistently great vocals and really lovely harmonies, seamlessly sharing the vocalist duties.

It’s just a shame there was such a modest crowd – Cape Town, you missed out on a lovely night.
