It was another particularly hot night in Cape Town, but that didn’t stop the dancing at Ragazzi, where Your LMG’s Dirty Xmas party welcomed the weekend in style with the help of Make-Overs, Beach Party and The Future Primitives.
The Red Bull Flugtag is an internationally-hosted event founded in Austria over 20 years ago, and was last held in South Africa in 2002. Cape Town proudly hosted the 123rd event in early December, and it was incredibly hot, crowded and entertaining.
A staggering 220 000 people flocked to the Waterfront to watch over 40 home-made flying contraptions and their creators leap off a ramp into the cold harbour water below. I couldn’t stay for everything, but was there from the start till about 12.30, here are some photos…
Saturday morning was brutal and not just for me – going big on the first night had clearly taken its toll on a lot of people. Still, any day that begins with a massive Spur burger (exotic breakfasts are a great part of festivals) is bound to be a good one; with the international headliner down, it was all down to the local acts to make day 2 of Synergy Live 2012 a cracker, and they managed quite easily.
Day 1 of Synergy 2012 didn’t exactly allow for a gentle easing into the weekend. Instead, things were full throttle from the get-go, featuring a crowd of thousands that descended upon the festival’s new venue (the Theewater Sports Club), some insane wind, even by Cape Town standards, and the fest’s international headliner, The Prodigy.
Summer in Cape Town means wind.
Horrible, unrelenting, roof-ripping wind.
Today was particularly windy in town and over the sea – I am really not looking forward to the next 5 months of this…
