Infanteria & School of Rock at Paul Bothner N1 City

Sat 17 October 2015

As part of ‘Rocktober’, Paul Bothner are hosting free live gigs every Saturday this month at their various branches. Last week that meant N1 City weekend shoppers and passersby were treated to some loud and energetic metal courtesy of Infanteria.

The location, stage setup and the fact that they followed a group of kids from School of Rock made the the entire morning wonderfully Spinal Tap and it was hands down one of the most fun gigs I’ve been to in a long time.

Coal “The Ruse” album launch at Alexander Bar

Fri 16 October 2015

Coal‘s album launch last Friday was a bittersweet affair as the show was to be their last (not counting the second night added on Saturday which was officially the last last). They’ve been long-time favourites of mine and like many I’m very sad to see them go, but the album is stunning and a lovely parting gift.

Here are some shots from the Friday show at Alexander Bar.

The Sleepers at House of Machines

Sat 10
October
2015

The Sleepers played an experimental instrumental gig at the House of Machines on Saturday night. It’d been ages since I’d seen the band and though it was quite different from their usual vibe it was really lovely; unfortunately I couldn’t stay for the whole set but did take a few shots before I left.

Rocking the Daisies 2015: Saturday

Sat 3 October 2015

Day 2 of Rocking the Daisies 2015 featured the biggest crowd I’ve ever been stuck in (for German headliners Milky Chance – it honestly took me the majority of their set to get from the far end of the crowd out to the foodcourt), a mini birthday parade, a rugby-viewing village and of course some great musical performances, including Fokofpolisiekar’s Daisy debut, returning-to-SA British headliners The Kooks and my personal festival highlight, the highly emotional and beautiful Hog Hoggidy Hog tribute performance in honour of George Bacon.

Here are some shots from Saturday at RTD2015.

Rocking the Daisies 2015: Friday

Fri 2 October 2015

Celebrating a #DecadeOfDaisies, Rocking the Daisies‘ 10 edition saw their biggest ever crowd (some 22 000 people) and featured a wide array of local and international artists across many stages. Always an entertainment jam-packed festival, this year was no different and apart from the music (and rugby) there was constantly plenty to see and do and eat and drink.

Here are some shots from Friday, featuring Australian headliners The Cat Empire as well as local favourites including Fokofpolisiekar, Jeremy Loops, 340million and loads more.
