Morlaix to Langoat via Perros Guirec

Our 10th day of roadtripping through beautiful Brittany took us to the pink granite coast, a bustling beach over which the Patrouille de France performed, the fairytale house between the rocks at Plougrescant and a comfy farmhouse bnb.

Perpetual low tide greeted us again as we left Morlaix. Funnily I’d woken in the middle of the night and saw the river looking full and beautiful in the moonlight but by the time the sun was up it was a mud slick again…

The first stop in the morning was a cute church at St Quay Perros and then the pink granite version in Perros-Guirec.

Next up was the Pink Granite Coast or Côte de Granit Rose and the Ploumanac’h lighthouse, or Men Ruz. It was pretty windy but the blue skies were lovely and perfect for the upcoming air display.

Approaching the beach in Perros-Guirec was tricky as most roads were parked up or cordoned off by police and we had to head quite far away, practically parking in a ditch. Again any nerves I had about illegal parking were laid to rest by the fact that the French (or maybe just the Bretons?) seem to go into total parking free for all mode when some kind of event is happening. When we made it back hours later the cars were just littered all over the sides of the road.

Each year the Patrouille de France perform an aerial display over Plage de Trestraou which is both free to attend and very popular. They also do a practice run the day before, which is what we went to. It was epic, but unfortunately being a practice the timings were not set in stone and we sat and waited several hours before spying the incoming planes on the horizon.

It was already evening when we made it to the Gouffre at Plougrescant. I wasn’t sure what to expect of the place as I’d seen many pictures of the famous house in between the rocks but it was totally charming and magic in person. Unfortunately it was windy and the tide was low, again, so the reflections weren’t as nice as they could have been but the area was beautiful and we loved it.

We stayed in the main house at Foudres de Coatarel which was large and comfortable, but the real highpoint was the light and airy common room outside which we had to ourselves that night. Gisele our hostess was great and generously gave us a bottle of home-made cider which of course was totally delicious and just what we needed. Slightly tipsy and famished, we made the biggest pot of pasta ever and had the best time.
