I like metal… I mean, I’m not a massive fan and I don’t know much about the local scene, but every time I shoot a metal gig I really enjoy it. There’s just always a great energy that’s so exciting to shoot and be a part of. Plus long-haired headbangers make for fun shots.
With all this in mind, I was really looking forward to Protest The Hero’s show last Saturday in Stellenbosch. Here are some shots from what was indeed an insane and super fun night.
Last Thursday’s Full House at Aces ‘n’ Spades was definitely one of the standout ones for me so far this year – it’d had been way too long since I’d been to proper, loud rock gig and Thursday really delivered, and then some. Here are some shots of Stoker, FILTH & Black Lung bringing down the house and keeping people up late the night before the worker’s day long weekend.
Last Saturday, the eco-warriors at GreenPop hosted their latest Cool as Folk party to raise funds as well as celebrate the planting of 50,000 trees – no mean feat. The last time I attended a CAF party was way back in 2011 – this time round the event had really grown exponentially.

Mid April I joined my dad, my uncle and the rest of McCully Workshop on a short roadtrip to Oudtshoorn where the band played 3 shows at Die Boer as part of the KKNK. Here are some shots from their soundcheck and various shows.
Back in 2007 I went on an epic matric trip to the KKNK in Oudtshoorn. Recently I joined my dad and headed back to the town/fest for the first time in 8 years. Even though we were there at the tail-end of the festival (the last few days) I was surprised at how quiet things were…and at how little some of the things/places I remember from last time around had changed.
It was a long drive and the actual time we spent in Oudtshoorn was quite stressful unfortunately, so I didn’t really get to explore or shoot a lot. I did take a few touristy snapshots though…
