Van Coke Kartel at Aces ‘n’ Spades

Thurs 27 November 2014

I know I just posted a condensed version of the last 2 months of Thursdays I’ve shot at Aces ‘n’ Spades, but last week’s show with Van Coke Kartel was just so good it warranted its own post. It was really one of those shows that reminded me why I love photographing live music so much – pure energy and excitement.

It was definitely the most crowded I’ve seen the place and the vibe was awesome. VCK always give it their all and are a truly great live band; it’s been a while since I’ve been sweated on in the front row of a full-on rough and loud gig and for this reason I doubly enjoyed it.

The band have gained a new drummer since the last I saw them and they played a lot of new(er) material which went down a treat with the adoring crowd. I don’t hand my camera over easily but they’d put me in such a great mood that when Mnr. Coke beckoned I hesitated just a few seconds before passing him my camera. This was his view of the crowd:

The excitement all round really was infectious and the vibe was great. I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again – it was a truly enjoyable night and one I think I’ll remember for a good while.
