Dead Red Mafia Tour at Zula

It takes a killer line-up to get me to go to Zula (I reeeeally don’t like the place) and that just happened to be the case last Friday: Dead Alphabet, Red Huxley and Woodstock Mafia kicked off their ‘Dead Red Mafia Tour’ with a bang, and were joined by Josh Roxton.

Woodstock Mafia  Red Huxley

I saw Josh Roxton once before at &Union, and enjoyed his sets both times, though his laid-back acoustic vibe was pretty different from the rest of the line-up and felt a little out of place…

I love watching Woodstock Mafiathey’re always great and Friday was no exception.

I’d seen Red Huxley just once before and thought they were pretty cool. I enjoyed their set  at Zula too, even though it contained the obligatory sound problem for the evening – the bass lost power and the 10 minutes it took to rectify felt like a small eternity…but the band handled it well.

They also have a free EP out at the moment which is worth a listen.

I don’t know much about Dead Alphabet aside from the fact that they’re from Joburg….I heard an EP of theirs a while back and thought Eat you alive was good, though confess I didn’t really remember any of the other tracks.

Their live show was cool, maybe not as obviously energetic as the previous 2 bands but still punchy…
