30 shades of Mr “Metal” Gray: Peachy Keen, Fox Comet, Rudimentals and FILTH at Mercury

Friday 28 November 2014

What do you get when a drummer for some of Cape Town’s coolest bands decides to celebrate his birthday by throwing a party with a bunch of his muso friends? The answer is Kyle Gray’s epic 30th bash at Mercury last Friday.

Rudimentals  Rudimentals

Things kicked off with a bang as first up were the Rudimentals, who virtually burst off the stage – both because of their energetic performance and because there are so many of them…

Their summer smash Sound Boy Killa recently made it to number one of the 5fm Top 40 and watching them perform it it’s easy to why. If you haven’t heard it yet, check it out over here.

Rudimentals

There was a short interlude for birthday speeches, happy birthday singing and cake (a significant portion of which wound up scattered across the floor…)

…then Kyle was back behind the drums again for Fox Comet. Ah Fox Comet, I really love them they’re always so much fun and it’d been way too long since I last saw them play.

Another band quiet for too long is Peachy Keen, whose super exciting reunion was next in the lineup. They didn’t disappoint, with high energy delivery of their infectious tracks and special guests in the form of an extended brass section.

FILTH closed things off with a lot of volume and sweat – in other words in a manner befitting the high-energy and fun-filled night.
