Having another dig through the archives – if you’re interested, here’s what was happening in my life this time 8 years ago up until the present…
2003 – I was a miserable 14yr old, but luckily that misery helped to drive me to truly start discovering photography and music. I had a little Canon Powershot A40 which was really fantastic.

2004 – I thought this was bizarre and pretty amusing…

2005 – I joined DeviantArt in September 2005 and started trying to be more serious about photography after that…I also upgraded my camera to an A95 – it was a truly amazing little camera and I really miss it.

2006 – I saw Lark for the first time in November 2006. The gig was really cool, it was called ‘Re-wake’ or something like that and happened at the Tafelberg Tavern. The Dirty Skirts also played (I think it was the first time I saw them too) as well as The Real Estate Agents and, I think, Jacob Israel.

2007 – I’d thoroughly hijacked my dad’s 30D by this point…again, lovely camera. With a dedicated macro lens I was able to take proper close-ups, something I’d wanted to do for ages. Other noteworthy events around this time in ’07: I matriculated and won the senior art trophy, which was mine to keep for like a week or so. I’d meant to photograph it but somehow didn’t get around to it until the day before it had to be given back, so this resulted in the ridiculously tongue-in-cheek self-portrait included below…

2008 – I got a 17-70mm lens which I totally loved and used for pretty much everything. I also recruited my brother to help mount some perspex pieces into a small shelf on my wall – it’s still standing! But buckling somewhat under the weight of all the crap I’ve subsequently loaded onto it…

2009 – Somehow, my mom and I got roped into showing some out-of-towners we knew only from the internet (not as dodgy as it sounds, we all belonged to a photography site…) around Long Street one evening. The lady was quite nice but her husband was really obnoxious and it was pretty embarrassing wandering around with him…I wonder sometimes how his pictures turned out…

2010 – Quite a memorable time, Foto na Dans at the beginning of October, Yoav and Zebra & Giraffe at the Three Arts at the end of October and Synergy Live at the end of November. Feels like it’s been a lot longer than just one year ago…
