Isochronous: Inscape album launch, with The Sleepers at Mercury

Friday 2 September 2011

I’ve been sick and generally miserable all week, but Friday came and brought with it the ever-entertaining Isochronous, returning to the Cape for the launch of their new album Inscape and joined by another of my favourites, The Sleepers. Sinobronchitis be damned, there was no way I was missing such a stellar combo.

The Sleepers  Isochronous

The evening marked the 7th anniversary of The Sleepers’ first performance back in 2004, and was also their second performance with new vocalist Daniel. Despite some technical difficulties (which I’ve never seen at Mercury before, so I guess had to happen some time) that killed the bass for several minutes halfway through, (well dealt with by the band who filled the time with some casual improvised prettiness) The Sleepers (or maybe Daniel specifically) seemed more at ease and confident on stage than the last time I saw them, and were great as ever.

Last time I saw Iscohronous was at Mercury back in March; I was really curious to hear their new material as the uber poppy anthem (and current single) Destiny is shaping up to be my favourite track of theirs.

I confess that the sickness I’d been trying to ignore started getting the better of me as the night wore on and I zoned out quite a lot so don’t remember as much as I’d’ve liked, but I know I had a great night, and the revenge my body got on me the rest of the weekend was a price worth paying…
