I was pleasantly surprised by Saintfearless the last time I saw them (opening for Isochronous) and was keen to see them again. Since they’re about to swap the stage for the studio for a while and their show at the Purple Turtle was to be their last for a while, I decided I couldn’t miss it. Also on the roster were Box Office and Woodstock Mafia, neither of whom I had seen before.
Like a lot of people, I have some dingy memories of the Purple Turtle from back in the day, and only recently found out that they’ve undergone a bit of a revamp. I’m glad, because it really is a cool little place…
Woodstock Mafia were first up. I’d heard 2 tracks of theirs online and thought they were pretty cool, and was surprised to learn that it was only their second gig together as a band. I really enjoyed their set, cool tracks and lots of energy, and a little screamy every now and then (in a good way).
It was also Box Office’s last show for a while. They were the most established of the bands, and the one I liked least. Not to say that they weren’t good, they were cool, I just preferred the other two…At any rate, they were fun and had some nice tracks.
It’s always cool watching a band gain status; last time I saw Saintfearless they were on first, this time they were headlining. And deservedly so – they’re a super fun band to watch with some great tracks. Their habit of taking their shirts off is pretty amusing too – at one point, keyboardist Kelvin even declared “we are Saintshirtless, cos that’s how we roll….”
They’ve been playing like crazy so the downtime is well-earned. I look forward to their future gigs and recorded material, whenever it arrives…
