I took a little break in the middle of the CTEMF to watch Tape Hiss and Sparkle at the Waterfront last Saturday…
Now with a rhythm section, consisting of Alessandro Busetto on bass and Mandisi Nkomo on drums, this was TH&S‘s first performance with its new lineup. I love the fragility of the recorded songs and Simon’s solo shows, but the dynamic of the trio and the added dimensions are really nice too.
Unfortunately, for most of the set, the very European couple at the front of the stage gave up any pretense they might’ve initially had of trying to restrain their baby, who was trying really hard to climb onto the stage, and who damn near succeeded…it was kinda funny at first but became downright distracting. But at least the kid had good taste – he was loving the music.
Tape Hiss and Sparkle’s first club-gig is on March 2nd at Zula Bar – it’s not often I recommend going to Zula, but this is going to be a good one.
