After rising early in the morning and blackening my thumb for democracy, I took the first cable car up Table Mountain and spent the morning walking through the mist and tourists on the top.
The mist was a little annoying in that it made taking photos of the city pretty hard, but it was really lovely up there. Early morning is definitely a great time to be on the mountain; it was pretty busy by the cable car entrance and restaurant, but after walking for a few minutes there was total isolation, it was wonderfully peaceful.
While I do enjoy hiking, I’m pretty lazy and generally prefer ‘mountain walking’ to mountain climbing, so I recently bought a Cable Card that gives me one cable car trip up and one trip down per day, every day (provided the cable car is running, of course). If you live in Cape Town, I highly recommend you invest in a Cable Card and spend more time on the mountain.
I’m not really sure if it deserves to be declared one of the new 7 wonders of nature, but Table Mountain is definitely a very special place.
