Last year’s Cape Town zombie walk was the first I attended and I had an awesome time. Back again for the fourth time, this year’s walk took place in the city centre – from Thibault square to the museum, along St. George’s Mall and the Avenue in the Company’s Garden. Though town was a bit quiet the urban setting was fantastic and the zombie horde managed to successfully scare a bunch of unsuspecting citizens…
It’s estimated that around 1 500 people took part in the walk this year, as well as some (zombified) dogs, including representatives from the Lucky Lucy foundation (the animal charity supported by the Zombie Walk) and the freaky inverted pet of Inside-out-guy, whose outfit was one of the stand-outs from last year.
This year my personal favourites included the Male Bride, the Left 4 Dead hoodie zombie, the undead swimmers and Wednesday and Morticia Addams. And my favourite moment has got to be passing a wedding procession in the Company’s Garden and watching the horrified kids shriek and shrink from the passing horde, only to be snuck up on from behind by Hoodie zombie. The resulting scene of fleeing terrified children and HZ’s instant pursuit generated a massive cheer from the zombie crowd, it was totally awesome.
