Portugal. The Man at Kirstenbosch

Wed 25 March 2015

Plane issues forced American indie rockers Portugal. The Man to postpone their Friday 20th concert to last Wednesday; unfortunately needing to catch another plane immediately after the show meant they couldn’t play a super long encore, but they put on a really great show nevertheless.

Desmond & the Tutu’s kicked things off with a bang as they always do. I never get tired of watching them.

I really enjoyed Portugal. The Man – they had a great vibe and had everyone on their feet within no time. As well as playing all the crowd favourites from Evil Friends (including Modern Jesus, Creep in a T-shirt and Purple yellow red and blue) they also included a bunch of really fun and unexpected covers, including Brick in the wallHey Jude and a pretty emotive rendition of Day Man from one of my favourite shows ever It’s always sunny in Philadelphia, which of course scored them major bonus points in my book.

They apologised for having to reschedule their show and for having to leave immediately afterwards saying “we have another show to play, and we never cancel our shows” It was a loyal gesture greatly appreciated by everyone.
