The awesome line-up and the quirky venue that is the Kimbo, combined to make Thursday night truly enjoyable – even though it was ridiculously hot and sweaty in the little upstairs room that serves as the gig area…
It was my second time at the Kimberley Hotel, and my second time seeing Sixgun Gospel, though technically it was more like my first, as I’d left early during their Synergy set.
They were loads of fun, and set the bluesy, Southern mood for the night. Plus, after a few songs they whipped out a banjo which was super cool – those pretty much win me over instantly.
The last times I’ve seen them, I’ve enjoyed watching The Pretty Blue Guns and this time was no exception, they’re a very cool band.
Apparently vocalist Andre Leo was almost electrocuted on stage and burned by a wire or something – not sure when that happened but evidently I missed it…I dunno what it says about the nature of the night that an event like that could totally pass me by, but I’m glad he’s okay and didn’t die, like he confessed to the crowd he thought he might.
Shadowclub never disappoint, and once again put on a great show. By the time they kicked off, the small room was full to bursting and seemingly devoid of any moving air. By the end of their set , I was sweaty, exhausted and totally exhilarated – a decisive end to a really great night.
