Coal & The Red Robins at The Waiting Room

Tuesday 18 October 2011

Coal put on another lovely show at the Waiting Room on Tuesday night and were joined by The Red Robins.

The Red Robins  Coal

I didn’t really know what I was expecting from The Red Robins but they surprised me. I can’t really make my mind up about them – they seem to me a bit like La.Vi‘s rougher little cousins. There were moments I liked and others I really didn’t; the guest appearance from Rolling Thunder’s vocalist was one of the former and the odd pitchy moments from the lead vocalist were some of the latter…

While this time wasn’t as special as their extended set on Women’s Day, Coal sounded punchier than I’d heard them before – and I don’t mean in a purely ‘down to the soundguy’ kinda way (though he did a great job). They also played a lovely ‘new’ song, The Ruse, that’s not really new at all but was being performed for the first time in over a year.
