Polish metal legends Behemoth returned to our shores over the Easter weekend (in spite of much opposition from dismayed religious protesters over the last few months) and put on a fantastically theatrical and polished show at the Assembly.
They’ve been playing since ’91 and it shows – they take what they do very seriously and they do it very well, perfectly crafting a set (comprised of latest album The Satanist played in its entirety as well as some old classics) full of energy and drama, with small skits and gimmicks to punctuate the show. These included pyrotechnics, spitting blood (whatever it was I got some on me and it smelled like cherries) and doing unholy interpretations of Christian rituals – sprinkling communion wafers into the crowd and wafting a Catholic incense burner.
Not my favourite music to listen to but definitely one of my favourite performances to shoot – here’s a look at the show.
