I’ve been shooting #Tuesonfire at &Union since the beginning of the year, so really enjoyed reliving some of the highlights by watching a collection of some of the standout performers – Motheo Moleko, Matthew Mole, Shannon Strange, Manny Walters & The Width and Dallas & Alexia – at the Assembly last Saturday.
Zebra & Giraffe ended their The Wisest Ones album launch tour at Mercury last Friday. Singer-songwriter Tailor seemed like a bit of an odd choice for a supporting act but the two were great together and both gave excellent performances.

It’s a great feeling, discovering an amazing band. If they’re new I can’t wait for their next release, and if they’re established I obsessively explore their back catalogue. Conversely, the discovery that a great band have decided to breakup can be devastating.
Hard as it can be to accept that they won’t be making new music, we’ll always have their parting gift – the music that made us fall in love with them in the first place.
In no particular order, here are a few bands whose recent(ish) breakups left me pretty upset, even though in some cases I wasn’t a huge fan.
Taking advantage of the blue skies, the West Coast flower season and the annual open period for the otherwise restricted Postberg section of the West Coast National Park, Jess, Leon, Kath & I took a lovely daytrip up the coast last Saturday.
Rolling Stone Weekend sounded a bit like a mini festival – 10 up-and-coming acts over 2 days at the Mercury/Shack complex as well as DJs. I checked out the Friday night featuring Crimson House Blues, Lucy Kruger, The Mysticcs, Tape Hiss and Sparkle, Beach Party and Youngsta.
