Last time I saw Desmond & the Tutus they were totally awesome, so I was really looking forward to seeing them again along with the rest of The Assembly’s formidable line-up of Joburg-based acts: Double Adapter, Shadowclub, Dance, You’re on Fire and The One Night Stands.
I was in primary school with 2/4 of the guys in Juke Royal (and one year of high school with another) and knew them (along with 2 others) in their previous incarnation Checked Zebra. I’m not the hugest fan of ska so was never mad about the CZ stuff I’d heard, but their new venture looked promising, and their official launch didn’t disappoint.
It really wasn’t wise of me to subject my sickly body to another loud and late night, but what can I say, I’m a trooper…okay not really, but I am a big fan of Fox Comet & Woodstock Mafia and will make the effort to see them whenever they play. Such was the case on Saturday, when they played with My Flawless Ending at a charity gig at Carnival Court.
