Zombie Fest 2015

Sat 31 October 2015

The official after party to the annual Cape Town Zombie Walk, the inaugural Zombie Fest took place last Saturday (Halloween) at the end point for the Zombie Walk, the Lookout at the Waterfront. Aside from market stands, a gaming room and mechanical bull there was loads of entertainment in the form of a varied line-up of bands. Here are some shots from the fest featuring The Rudimentals, Reburn, The Ratrod Cats, The Damned Crows,  Art of Play, The Dukes, Blynd Tyger, Cami Chaos and the Dukes of Note.

Cape Town Zombie Walk 2015

Sat 31 October 2015

Halloween saw a massive crowd turn up for the annual CT Zombie Walk. I’ve attended the event since 2012 and this year’s was by far the biggest crowd to date. The walk was also significantly longer this year, starting at the Company’s Garden around 1:30pm and ending at the Lookout at the Waterfront around 2:30/3pm where the first Zombie Fest ran until late that night.

It’s always loads of fun – everyone dressed up, and the expressions of the confused and sometimes scared passersby. This year because of the distance between the starting and end points I, like many others took the bus to the Gardensc which was doubly fun as the small amount of zombies at the station and on the bus got a lot of confused looks from other passengers.

All in all, a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon; here are some shots from the walk.

South African HorrorFest: Makabra Ensemble’s Faust at the Labia

Fri 30 October 2015

The last time I saw the Makabra Ensemble perform a live score to a silent horror film was in 2012 when they re-imagined Nosferatu.  Watching them again last Friday, breathing new life into the 1926 classic Faust, made me sorry I’d missed so many of their previous performances – what they do is truly something special.

New painting: Gibson Les Paul

ART

Back in 2009 I started this painting for my dad of his beautiful Les Paul and for some reason or another forgot about it till this year when I finally completed it as a birthday present for him. It’s life-sized on masonite board with a homemade wooden frame.

Oh Mercy ‘Nowhere City’ album launch at the New Space Theatre

Sat 24 October 2015

Country duo Oh Mercy launched their album Nowhere City last Saturday at the New Space Theatre. Core duo Andy & Emma were joined by a rotating roster of supporting band members and performed in front of a screen full of dreamy American prairie-inspired visuals supplied by The Grrrl.

It was a really special evening full of haunting harmonies, hearty laughs and toe-tapping music; here are some photos.
