Though I didn’t see them in concert, I did see Iron Maiden leaving Cape Town last Friday afternoon. My shots of Ed Force One were all super boring so I decided to metal this one up a bit \m/

I’ve been wanting to check out new post-punk/indie band Dangerfields for a while and finally got a chance when they played EVOL/Hectic on Hope two Saturdays ago along with The Fizz Pops.
I have a soft spot for anything vaguely post-punk, so while they’re new and feel a bit like they still need to find their sound, I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on Dangerfields in the future.
I don’t post many album reviews, mostly because I struggle to find the time to put them together. As it is I’ve been sitting with this one since the end of last year, and though I really enjoyed it, I couldn’t quite get into the headspace to truly appreciate and dissect an album called The Winter Switch during the relentless heatwave Cape Town faced last Summer…so I let the months drift by, and the air grow colder…
Autumn doesn’t really exist in Cape Town and the seasons seem to transition quickly and messily from summer to winter during April. Then along comes May and it’s undeniably winter – I always find that sudden change quite amazing…I’m not sure what exactly Tape Hiss and Sparkle‘s titular ‘winter switch’ refers to, but the phrase definitely came to mind during the first cold days of May.
Billed as ‘Cape Town Comic Con’, there was considerable hype and anticipation surrounding the inaugural FanCon over the first weekend of May. I was out of town on the Saturday but word was traveled fast that it was chaos at the Lookout – the entry queue apparently stretched for miles from early in the morning and it seemed a lot of people had a lot of complaints…
Sunday however was nothing but pleasant, both in terms of organisation (staff were on hand in the queue giving armbands to those who were there yesterday and had weekend passes and the whole thing seemed to move pretty smoothly) and the event itself.
