I’d heard good things about Holiday Murray and thought their video for Jirey was pretty cool, but I was still undecided about checking out their album launch. Then I heard Bateleur would be playing too – because I liked them so much the last time I saw them, I decided to go and am really glad I did.
I was pleasantly surprised by Saintfearless the last time I saw them (opening for Isochronous) and was keen to see them again. Since they’re about to swap the stage for the studio for a while and their show at the Purple Turtle was to be their last for a while, I decided I couldn’t miss it. Also on the roster were Box Office and Woodstock Mafia, neither of whom I had seen before.
I love birds, they’re awesome, and these little white eyes are particularly cute…
One-man-blues-band Dave Ferguson has been a regular fortnightly performer at the Grand Daddy Hotel’s rooftop trailer park for ages (the last two years, I think). I only saw him there once previously (and then again at Ramfest earlier this year) but thought he was really cool. He’s about to leave for Europe (or is on his way by now, I’m not sure…) and gave his last performance at the Grand Daddy laaast Friday, so Jess and I went to check it out…
I missed the first Cool As Folk which happened last year, but am so glad I didn’t miss the second one that happened last Thursday.
The event was presented by GreenPop, an exciting organisation aimed at planting trees in under-greened areas, and their decor alone made the evening memorable; a large tree mural greeted everyone as they arrived and, upstairs, the stage was transformed into a forest, it was really beautiful.
