I discovered Yoav by chance when he played at the Assembly at the beginning of 2010 and have been catching him most times he’s played in Cape Town since then. Since this isn’t very frequent, his recent visit to The Assembly was something I was looking forward to for the whole week – and he didn’t disappoint.
I dunno why but I always find weeks with public holidays to feel longer than normal, and last week was the longest in my recent memory. Every day felt like it should’ve been Friday. So by the time it really was Friday I wanted nothing more than to collapse and sleep till spring…but Taxi Violence were playing, so I knew that wasn’t an option…
I’m pretty certain that Coal are one of my favourite local bands around at the moment, but if I’d in any way needed convincing of this, Tuesday’s magical gig at the Waiting Room would’ve done the trick.
Any event with a dress-code of “you or a Zombie celebrity that has been sent straight to the gates of HELL!” has my attention, and when there’s also a killer line-up like Saturday’s – Woodstock Mafia, Genitalia, The Bone Collectors, Ann Jangle – you can count me and my zombie garb in.
First off, I really feel the need to state that I am not a fan of the Claremont-scene, mostly because, while I love gigging, I hate clubbing but also because I don’t have a lot of tolerance for the kinds of people that go out in Claremont*…with all this in mind, the fact that I ventured waaay out of my comfort zone, on a freezing weeknight to the notorious Tiger Tiger, really says a lot about my love of Jax Panik.
