With its predecessor now 11 years old, Diablo III’s May 15th global release has been highly anticipated in the gaming world. Now while I’m not a serious gamer, I can appreciate the hype around it, mostly because my brother has spoken of nothing else for the last while. We pre-ordered the game on Kalahari.com and on Monday night we attended their launch party in Gandalf’s – it was loads of fun.
I had a lot of fun and learned a great deal during my first time shooting in a studio last Saturday. Big thank yous to Luke Daniel and Josh Watson at South Line Studio for giving me this opportunity and showing me the ropes, to Suzanne de Wet for the lovely make-up and to the gorgeous Dani Diamond for her tireless enthusiasm and general loveliness.
Always exciting to check out international bands – last Saturday’s visitors were UK blues rockers Scoundrels, wrapping up their SA tour with their penultimate show at the Assembly, along with the ever-entertaining Mr. Cat & The Jackal and Bicycle Thief.
While I feel the impact of a ‘supergroup’ is lessened a bit in our local scene as many musicians already play in multiple bands, it’s still exciting when a bunch of musical heavy-weights get together to form a new band. Last Friday was the inaugural event of Music Without Borders (who will host monthly shows highlighting new and up and coming acts) featuring the debut performance of new CT supergroup Goodnight Wembley as well as The Mysticcs and Wild Eastern Arches.
Something a little different for me on a weeknight – a cultured and enjoyable evening at the Fugard Theatre watching piano & vocal artist Shannon Hope.
