The first month of 2016 ended on a bang with Mumford & Sons’ massive show last Friday. The first of the band’s three packed Cape Town shows saw thousands at the Grand Parade to watch the headlining ‘gentlemen of the road’ as well as fellow internationals The Very Best and Baaba Maal and local favourites Beatenberg and John Wizards.

Last Sunday a bunch of great bands got together at the Great Wizoo to raise money for Nic Gaud‘s dog Tuj’s medical bills. Artists included Matt Vend, 7th Son, Grassy Spark, West Coast Wolves, and Half Price.

By the end of last year I was shooting 6 days/nights a week; spending more time with my camera than ever before has been great but unfortunately it doesn’t leave a lot of time for personal photography.

Another year has evaporated and it is now 2016, and my 9th last.fm anniversary.
Last.fm’s implemented a whole load of changes most of which I don’t really like but the improved graphs are interesting – looking back on mine I can see I didn’t listen to as much music as I usually do this year. I missed a lot of the big releases and will no doubt get into them belatedly over the next few months, but in the meantime here’s what I enjoyed listening to the most in 2014.
The last gig I attended for 2015 (and weirdly my second Sunday night gig in a row) was Zebra & Giraffe’s Slow Motion EP launch at Mercury last week. I haven’t seen them in a while and really enjoyed the show, even if their new material lacks a lot of their signature darkness – clearly recording in California had a big influence on the mood and sound of the new stuff.
Still, they played a great show with a nice mix of new and old material and were supported by Wear Wolf and Yorke. Here are some shots from the night.
