Greek black metal band Rotting Christ faced a fair amount of resistance to their South African tour, but for all that the Cape Town show at the Assembly went down (rather disappointingly, I must say) without any interference from angry protesters.
While I tend to agree that their provocative name is inappropriate to say the least, I did enjoy their performance and was surprised the event wasn’t as full as previous Witchdoctor Shows.
Psych Night kicked off the month of July with their ‘Riders on the Storm’ edition, featuring bands from 3 SA cities – Dangerfields from Cape Town, Joburg’s the Tazers and Black Math from Durban.
Here are some shots from the packed Manila Bar show.
This time last year I attended my first Infanteria show (which also happened to be their album launch) and it was epic. Since then I’ve become a big fan of the band and always enjoy being at their shows.
Sadly there wasn’t a great turnout for the 10th year anniversary (big congrats to them, by the way) show at the end of June, but that didn’t stop them from giving it their all, as they always do.
Here are some shots from the show.
After the chilled gig I’d attended the night before, I relished the intensity and energy of Subject to Slaughter‘s EP launch at ROAR. I always get hair envy watching the band – seriously, they should have a Pantene endorsement or something (if they don’t already).
They were supported by PE band Mezzanine Floor (each member of this band had me doing a double take as they all appeared to be doppelgangers of random other people I know…totally bizarre but loads of fun spending their set figuring out who they each reminded me of…) and the ever-energetic Bulletscript.
