I’ve attended several well-decorated nights at Mercury in the last few months and the Shadowfax halloween party was probably the coolest so far – the organisers went all out with the psychadelic/trance party decor and fake cobwebs, and both the performers (ohgod, Deity’s Muse, Caelo and the Morning Pages) and attendees were encouraged to dress up in the spirit of Halloween.

It’s been years since I’ve seen Dance, you’re on fire, and like many I was keen for their return show in Cape Town at Mercury. They shared the stage with The Plastics, Veladraco and Young Hands, as well as the myriad painted cardboard cartoons that filled the venue.
Beach Party played a once-off reunion show at Mercury at the end of October, featuring most of the original members, and support from the Runaway Nuns and Heroine.
Blah Blah Bar held the Interplanetary Folk fest, a mini folk and quirky music festival, over a week at the end of September; here are some shots of the Saturday night, featuring Ottoman Slap, Hezron Chetty, Jonathan Tait, and Riku Lätti and Churchill.
Retro Dizzy played a packed show in Mercury back at the end of September and, I must say, Mercury looked better than I’d seen it, well probably ever – balloons, lanterns and streamers abounded and a snowy old TV formed the bizarre centrepiece on the bottom left corner of the stage. Completing the musical lineup were the highly entertaining and energetic Runaway Nuns and my favourite local post-punks Dangerfields.
