Endless Daze Festival: Friday

Fri 11
November
2016

The team behind Psych Night debuted the first Endless Daze festival at the Silwerstroom Resort up the west coast back in November. The venue was lovely and the small size of the festival meant great facilities (camping right next to the festival area, ablution blocks with toilets, showers and even baths, and the beach a short walk from the main area) for everyone.

The fact that there was also only one stage (well, one and a half if you count the small acoustic stage on Saturday morning) put the focus back on the music in a way that other festivals just aren’t able to do. In this way Endless Daze felt a lot more like one big gig than a festival to me.

Here are some shots from the Friday.

Punk goes pop at Mercury

Sat 5
November
2016

Featuring 50% original material and 50% covers (of super commercial pop songs, for the most part), Punk goes pop was highly entertaining for a night containing a such a high concentration of Justin Bieber, Beyonce and Taylor Swift.

Here are some shots from the Cape Town show, featuring Crash Car Burn, Held on Till May and Veladraco.

Red Huxley’s final gig at Beerhouse

Sat 29
October
2016

News of Red Huxley‘s final show came as a surprise to me; I’ve always liked the band and will definitely miss their energy and shows. They said goodbye in style though with a packed show at (the rather unlikely but pretty cool venue choice of) Beerhouse. Since it was also the halloweekend there was the added bonus of some people dressed up.

Here are some shots from the night.

Shadowfax Halloween 2016 at Mercury

Fri 28
October
2016

I’ve attended several well-decorated nights at Mercury in the last few months and the Shadowfax halloween party was probably the coolest so far – the organisers went all out with the psychadelic/trance party decor and fake cobwebs,  and both the performers (ohgod, Deity’s Muse, Caelo and the Morning Pages) and attendees were encouraged to dress up in the spirit of Halloween.

Here are some shots from the night.

Dance, you’re on fire, Veladcraco & Young Hands at Mercury

Fri 21
October
2016

It’s been years since I’ve seen Dance, you’re on fire, and like many I was keen for their return show in Cape Town at Mercury. They shared the stage with The PlasticsVeladraco and Young Hands, as well as the myriad painted cardboard cartoons that filled the venue.
