2016
Oppikoppi gets cold at night… But like really, really cold. So the fact that I spent Friday night sweating in my bed made me rather concerned… Yup, the flu finally got me, and it made the rest of my weekend a living hell.
I honestly don’t remember shooting a lot of these images let alone the actual performances…so here’s a look at how I zombied my way through Saturday at Oppikoppi 2016 on autopilot…
The day started off much like Saturday last year did – with the matching band making its way around thee various campsites and playing everything from The flower of Scotland to the Game of Thrones theme to… Michael Jackson I think? Or some disco track, I can’t remember but it sounded pretty surreal when covered by bagpipes.
This year I was determined to see more of Mordor and its inhabitants… Literally. I missed the naked run last year so made sure to catch it this time. It was quite a sight. One I unfortunately got to relive in graphic detail when editing/tastefully censoring these photos.
The rest of the day after that gets a bit blurry…I just remember feeling hot and tired and horrible…I honestly don’t know how I made it up the hill to the top bar and Red Bull stage as often as I did.
I do remember that the tequila cocktails and shade at the Jose Cuervo tent helped a lot…
The heat had me struggling all day, and it was only really around sunset that I began feeling slightly more human. I said it before but I’ll say it again – the sunsets really are quite magical up north.
I do remember Grassy Spark‘s set – I was lucky to have the opportunity to shoot some of it from the stage which was super cool. The band were super tight and their performance was great, definitely a Saturday stand-out for me.
Overall Friday’s lineup was a lot more exciting to me and I think, looking back, that was actually pretty lucky – if I’d been panicking about seeing everyone I loved on Saturday I probably would have completely collapsed in a flu-heap…as it was I struggled, a lot, to get everywhere on Saturday and probably missed as much as I saw.
The worst part though was knowing the biggest festival day was yet to come, while trying to sleep through the aches and pains and fever sweats…
