Lark made their stunning return with the premier of their new music video Stole the moon at the Assembly last Saturday, and were joined on stage by the ever-entertaining Great Apes.
The Great Apes kicked things off in their usual no holds barred way. They’re really growing on me more each time I see them, so much so that this time round I found myself loudly singing along to Human Machine Wild Animal Mountain, both on the night and for the rest of the weekend.
Unfortunately, it was so crowded that I dunno how many people could actually see the screens onto which Lark’s music video was projected (I know I struggled a bit from the angle I was at). There was a little playback hickup in the beginning, but after that the crowd stood transfixed by the black and white form of Inge Beckmann, which occupied the screen for the next 3 and a half minutes.
You can read more details about the video over here, as well as check out some framegrabs. I liked it (especially the underground scenes – awesome location) but always feel a bit bad for the rest of the band when a video’s all about the singer…
But it’s easy to understand why the video’s all about Inge Beckmann – she’s a force, totally hypnotic on stage with an incredible voice and a spinechilling fireceness in her eyes. I like Lark and really enjoyed their show and hearing some new material.
