I checked out the Friday night featuring <a title=\"Crimson House Blues \u2013 Smoke, Dust &amp; whiskey Album launch at Mercury\" href=\"http:\/\/lauramccullagh.com\/blog\/2012\/03\/crimson-house-blues-smoke-dust-whiskey-album-launch\/\" target=\"_blank\">Crimson House Blues<\/a>, Lucy Kruger, <a title=\"Music Without Borders: Goodnight Wembley, The Mysticcs &amp; Wild Eastern Arches at Mercury\" href=\"http:\/\/lauramccullagh.com\/blog\/2012\/05\/music-without-borders-goodnight-wembley-the-mysticcs-wild-eastern-arches-at-mercury\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Mysticcs<\/a>, <a title=\"Tape Hiss and Sparkle \u2018Paperhawk\u2019 album launch with Mesmer at Obviouzly Armchair\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/media\/set\/?set=a.372655952795640.82860.139248482803056&amp;type=3\" target=\"_blank\">Lucy Kruger<\/a> at <a title=\"Two months of Tuesdays (April &amp; May)\" href=\"http:\/\/lauramccullagh.com\/blog\/2012\/07\/two-months-of-tuesdays-april-may\/\" target=\"_blank\">#Tuesonfire<\/a> and really enjoyed her music, so was looking forward to seeing her again. Aside from being decidedly blonder, her set-up was pretty much the same as the acoustic show at &amp;Union. Again, I really enjoyed her set &#8211; her songs are all varied and interesting which isn&#8217;t always the case for singer-songwriters.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<style type=\"text\/css\">\n\t\t\t#gallery-2 target=\"_blank\">The Mysticcs are a lot of fun to watch<\/a>; though they had a different bassist from the one <a title=\"Music Without Borders: Goodnight Wembley, The Mysticcs &amp; Wild Eastern Arches at Mercury\" href=\"http:\/\/lauramccullagh.com\/blog\/2012\/05\/music-without-borders-goodnight-wembley-the-mysticcs-wild-eastern-arches-at-mercury\/\" target=\"_blank\">I&#8217;d seen \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/dt><\/dl>\n\t\t\t<br style='clear: both' \/>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>The show had started really early (7pm) but 2 and a half hours in it seemed to be as full as it was going to get, which was really nowhere near the turnout I was expecting&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Much like the <a title=\"The Bone Collectors \u2018Black Love\u2019 album launch at the German Club\" href=\"http:\/\/lauramccullagh.com\/blog\/2012\/09\/the-bone-collectors-black-love-album-launch-at-the-german-club\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bone Collectors&#8217; album launch the week before<\/a>, the sparse crowd (and diversity of the acts) made it really obvious to see the swapping in and out of fans for each set. I think I identified most with\u00a0<a title=\"Tape Hiss and Sparkle \u2018Paperhawk\u2019 album launch with Mesmer at Obviouzly Armchair\" href=\"http:\/\/lauramccullagh.com\/blog\/2012\/06\/tape-hiss-and-sparkle-paperhawk-album-launch-with-mesmer-at-obviouzly-armchair\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tape Hiss and Sparkle<\/a>&#8216;s crowd; at least the fact that the place wasn&#8217;t packed meant that everyone was pretty quiet and attentive during his set.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve played\u00a0<em>Paperhawk<\/em> a lot since attending the launch in June and really enjoyed watching TH&amp;S&#8217;s sincere and fragile live renditions again. He even managed to make a 90s Rnb song \u00a0(by Mariah Carey I think)\u00a0not only bearable but actually quite lovely.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<style type=\"text\/css\">\n\t\t\t#gallery-4 {\n\t\t\t\tmargin: Assembly<\/a> at the end of last year but don&#8217;t really remember much apart from the cast of thousands up on the stage; this time it was just him and his beatmaker &#8216;The Muffinman&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>I have to admit that while I found his lyrics clever and amusing, the backing beats felt a little too generic for me.
