Before their show at Kirstenbosch that evening, I attended American folk band The Lumineers’ press conference with Tecla to get some shots of the band for Texx and The City.<\/a>\u00a0The band were very down to earth and all seemed like a sweet bunch of people.<\/p>\n

After a tentative start (the band broke the ice by assuring\u00a0everyone\u00a0“don’t worry, you can’t ‘out-shy’ us”) the questions started flowing\u00a0and\u00a0the answers brought forth smiles, laughs , nods and furious note-taking.<\/p>\n

I confess, during the quieter moments I fought hard to suppress the urge to tell\u00a0percussionist Jeremiah Fraites that I loved him in Zombieland<\/em> and\u00a0True Detective…<\/em><\/p>\n

\"The<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\"Wood<\/a> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0(because, I mean, he must get that all the time, surely…)<\/em><\/p>\n

Stand-out moments for me were cellist\u00a0Neyla Pekarek confessing her love of crafts, saying she always brings tonnes of impractical stationery with her on tour\u00a0so she can write letters from the road, and bassist\u00a0Ben Wahamaki recalling his most memorable fan interaction: ”she came up to me and said ‘the band wouldn’t be the same without you!’ which was so amazing, because I’m a bassist, and no-one ever says that about the bassist.”<\/p>\n

They seemed like really nice people – I hope they enjoyed their time here in SA!<\/p>\n\n\t\t
