Oh, Cruel Fate<\/a>, Joshua Grierson<\/a> and The Sleepers<\/a> played a great gig at ROAR<\/a> last Sunday in celebration of their mutual friend\u00a0Frank Moody<\/a>‘s birthday. The vibe was relaxed and loads of fun, and felt kinda like an extended house party.<\/p>\n

Oh, Cruel Fate is a new band but founding members Dani Diamond<\/a> and\u00a0Alessandro Busetto<\/a>\u00a0are no strangers to music – Alex currently plays bass with Tape Hiss and Sparkle<\/a>\u00a0and Dani’s voice is legendary but too rarely heard.<\/p>\n

Sunday’s performance was the first time I’d seen them – now fleshed out by Drummer Mandisi\u00a0Nkomo (also of Tape Hiss and Sparkle, among other bands) and guitarist Louw Visagie) – and I thought they were great, not only because I really like their sound, which is dark and inviting, but because I’ve known Dani for some years and watching her brought on that special feeling you get when you see someone doing what they’re meant to be doing – her joy onstage was palpable.<\/p>\n

Their set included a bunch of their original songs as well as some covers especially for the night – a great gypsy-tinged rendition of\u00a0Ring of Fire<\/em> and a few soulful lines from\u00a0Kiss from a Rose<\/em>, both of which resulted in smiles all round.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
